The Ten Greatest Reasons to Hire a Professional Coach

The Ten Greatest Reasons to Hire a Professional Coach

sign post -guidance

What is the benefit of hiring a Professional Coach in any field: Life Coach, Business Coach, Fitness Coach, Recovery Coach, Family Recovery Coach, or any other specialized coach?

I get asked this question quite often from both sides of the equation: as an instructor of Professional Master Coaches, and as a successful business woman who utilizes a Professional Coach.  I’ll share with you my top ten reasons why I believe anyone should hire a Professional Coach.

Hello I am Your Coach
Before I share my thoughts with you on the top ten reasons to hire a Professional Coach, I want to define what a Professional Coach is and what they do.

A Professional Coach is:

A highly trained and very skilled individual
A professional with tools to get the job done
A very motivated individual who motivates others
An ethical and responsible person
A caring people person
A very advanced cheerleader
An action-oriented problem solver
A flexible, goal-driven communication specialist
A perception and perspective changer
A blockage buster and solution finder
It’s also important to look at what Professional Coaches are not to truly understand who they really are.

A Professional Coach is not:

A banker or accountant
A therapist or counselor
A sponsor or twelve-step guide
A psychiatrist
A goal or objective setter
A date or romantic interest
A party pal
A person with a conflict of interest in relation to a client
An uneducated or untrained individual
Interested in selfish, unethical, or illegal matters
Now that I have identified what a Professional Coach is and is not, I would like to describe what a coach does.  Coaching is a results and client driven process where the coach assists the client to reach a solution.  It is a development or training process where a client receives support while working towards goals and objectives via specific action plans, where the coach utilizes core competencies, skill sets, and tools to help the client see past blockages and reach solution or meet goals.  There are many different types of coaching:

Coaching Types and Styles:

1. Business Coaching
2. Recovery Coaching
3. Christian Coaching
4. Executive Coaching
5. Life Coaching
6. Financial Coaching
7. Health and Wellness Coaching
8. Fitness coaching
9. Relationship Coaching
10. Personal coaching
11. Family recovery coaching

There are many different types and styles of coaching; the largest difference today is peer coaching and Professional Coaching.  The difference is just like it sounds, peer coaching is peer to peer often volunteer, and Professional Coaching is a highly trained and skilled individual and almost always paid for their services. Professional Coaches use a range of communication skills such as active listening, powerful questioning, paraphrasing, the natural laws of cause and effect, reading body language, tones, and inflections, observation, intuition, action planning, and other activities. Professional Coaching helps an individual to identify their capabilities and skill sets that already exist internally and put them into motion to reach solutions in all coaching fields.

Now I’ve identified what a Professional Coach is and isn’t and what they do. You have to be prepared before you execute; now you’re ready to get the information you’ve been waiting for. What are the ten greatest benefits of hiring these highly trained and skilled individuals?

  • Every problem has a solution because the problem defines the solution; there is perspective and perception problems that block most clients from getting to solutions on their own, Profession Coaches help clients get past these blocks and reach solutions.
  • We all are human, thus we all suffer from the human condition. We all have blind spots; Professional Coaches can help clients can point out areas of weakness that clients miss or don’t see.
  • We all need someone to hold us accountable. Clients can take on greater responsibility by meeting with their coach on action plans with specific time tables and follow-up.
  • A Professional Coach will help redirect the client when they are off track with their action plan. The coach is trained to be flexible; however, to keep the plan moving forward toward solution.
  • A Professional Coach is trained to bring out the very best in the client through communication skills and other coaching techniques. The client won’t just be spinning in circles, but actually, always moving forward toward solution.
  • The coach brings extra talent to the table. When the client sets the goal, then the coach and client brainstorm together to reach solution; there is twice the creativity.
  • We all need spiritual sounding boards in our lives. Even coaches need coaches! I haven’t met a highly successful person yet who doesn’t have a coach!
  • Professional Coaches celebrate all the victories with the client, no matter how big or small. A win is a win!
  • Clients can communicate with their coach in confidence and confidentiality. The coach will always be supportive and non-judgmental. The coach may suggest change; however, it will be in a positive and nurturing way.
  • Professional Coaches get results! They bring out the best in clients and expect the champion from within to show him or herself.

This really is a no brainer!  If you could achieve your goal, increase your bottom line, lose those pounds, win that championship, or at least increase your chances for success, wouldn’t you do what it takes?  Professional Coaches make all the difference!

“So I decided to get the National Intervention certification. I had been doing 12-step calls and intervening on drug addicts for a while. I wanted the certification, but didn’t think I would learn anything in the class. I was wrong! I learned so many things about doing interventions that I never knew. I feel way more confident now when doing an intervention. Thank you,Student  Cali Estes! Can’t wait to get back in class soon to get that sober coach certification.”

7 Secrets of a Sober Companion

A sober companion is not a sponsor, a lawyer, accountant, advisor, bookie, or lover!  A sober companion is an individual, working full- time with clients in a recovery coaching role.  At times nights, weekends, extended periods, or twenty-four hours a day, travel, live in, from several weeks to months, or longer.  The relationship begins with treatment discharge, or where there is need. The client returning home from treatment, leaves a drug-free environment for a situation where they know there could be problems. A Long Term Recovery Coach or Sober Companion will provide the symbolic safety of treatment.  A Long Term Sober Companion will introduce the client to the modalities of recovery; help them deal with triggers, and help them with an action plan. A Long Term Recovery Coach or Sober Companion will help the client to make life changes and work toward solutions needed.

Secret #1: Sober companions are highly trained professionals.
Sober companions go through rigorous training learning tools, techniques, skill sets, and competencies that aid them in their work.  Granted not all companions are the same, it depends on where they were trained and their level of training.

Secret #2: Sober companions are held to very high ethical standards.
Ethics are a very important part of any sober companion’s training.  They must learn all of the requirements and set boundaries, follow rules and regulations, and expectations.  There are ten categories of ethical standards that all companions are held to:
Fraud related conduct
Safety and welfare
Professional standards
Confidentiality
Unlawful conduct
Sexual Misconduct
Exploitation of clients
Record Keeping
Cooperation with investigations
Assisting unqualified practice

Secret #3: The practice of sober companions is goal and client driven.
Although the companion can assist with the action plan, the client must set the goal.  The companion never ever sets the goal in the action plan for the client.  Once the client sets the goal the companion will help with the action and specifics with follow up and time tables of when each task must be completed for success.  Action plans lead to success.
Secret #4: If you don’t like working with a certain sober companion, you can choose a different one.
Not all people click!  Sometimes two people just don’t mesh.  If you find that your companion is a dud, or they bore you to death, simply find a different one.  A word to the warning though, if this keeps happening it may be you.  You should be happy with your companion; you will be spending a good deal of time with them.
Secret #5: Sober companions will go to special events with you and help you make it through the event sober.
Sometimes weddings, funerals, and major life events can be gigantic triggers for those in early recovery.  Sober companions will go with you to events and help guide you through all of your triggers and provide you with coping mechanisms to get through sober and safe.  It doesn’t matter if you’re a lead singer playing a gig, or the best man in your cousin’s wedding, a sober companion will dress the part, and be right there with you.
Secret #6: All sober companions are not the same.
Sober companions come from all walks of life, all different backgrounds.  Some companions are in recovery, some are not, some are religious, some are not, some are spiritual, some are funny, some are more highly educated than others, and they have many different perspectives and worldviews.  The most important factor is that you find a sober companion who is highly trained.
Secret #7: You can become a sober Companion, yes you!
Imagine that! You could train to become an excellent sober companion and help change people’s lives for the better.  The Addictions Academy of Miami, Florida trains Companions, recovery coaches, interventionists, and all kinds of recovery professionals.  You can visit their website at www.theaddictionsacademy.com or call 800-706-0318 for more information on how to become a sober companion or recovery coach.
There is no secret that these wonderful professionals are helping to change and save lives each and every day.  Aftercare is paramount to long-term recovery and coaching and companions are very important in the big picture.  The need is overwhelming, there are not enough people to help all those in need at present.  Many more coaches and companions will be needed going forward in the war on addiction.  The bottom line is that sober companions make a difference.

NFL Sober Coach: 7 NFL Teams with the Most PED Abuse

NFL Sober Coach:  7 NFL Teams with the Most PED Abuse.
www.theaddictionscoach.com  1.800.706.0318
The media is consistently reporting on professional sports players and the use of banned performance enhancing drugs (PEDs),  specifically in the National Football League.   Ironically, they aren’t enhancing many of the players performances and consequently leading many players to multiple game suspensions and more disconcerting, to serious drug addictions.
While the New England Patriots are being — and will continue to be — lambasted as cheaters for their controversial playoff run to a win in Super Bowl XLIX, it is important to remember that their opponents, the Seattle Seahawks, weren’t boasting the most squeaky-clean track record themselves.
The Seahawks happen to be one of the league leaders in player suspensions for performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) and substance abuse since 2010. Ironically, two of the suspensions for the Seahawks came from the same player, and that person now plays for the Patriots.
Here’s a look at the top seven teams in terms of number of players suspended for PEDs and substance abuse in the past five years.
In fourth place, Baltimore, St. Louis, NY Giants, and Tampa all tied with 5 suspensions on each team.
Third place goes to the Indianapolis Colts, who have 6 suspensions themselves.
In second place sits the Seattle Seahawks, with an alarming 9 suspensions.
Now, here is an interesting fact, the team with the most suspensions is the Washington Redskins with 10. What makes this so interesting is that Washington has been one of the worst teams in the NFL over the past decade.  So this shows that using these banned substances isn’t really giving the players a competitive edge. In fact, out of the above listed teams with the most suspensions, only 3 have made the playoffs recently.
This feeds the theory that PEDs are just as addictive as other drugs. Or maybe it’s safer to say that the process of becoming bigger and stronger at all costs is just as addictive as other illegal drugs. With these suspended players losing hundreds of thousands of dollars if caught, it’s safe to say that this group of players need sober coaches and can find one at www . theaddictionscoach.com.
From Sober Companion Services to Recovery Coaching Services to Addiction Therapy, we can handle it all for the Professional Sports Player or Athlete.
We offer Gambling Addiction Coaching, Drug and Alcohol Addiction Coaching, sex addiction coaching, Anger Management Coaching, and we offer it on the playing field, off the field, at home and also while the professional athlete is traveling.

jeremiah ratliff

The NFL suspended Chicago defensive lineman Jeremiah Ratliff without pay for the first three games of the season Monday, saying he violated its substance-abuse policy.

Ratliff will miss games against the Packers, Cardinals and Seahawks before he is eligible to return to the active roster in time for the
Oct. 4th game against Oakland. He is eligible to participate in all preseason practices and games, including Saturday’s game at Cincinnati.
Ratliff said he anticipated the suspension for a 2013 drunken-driving incident and will move on without appealing to the league.
“There’s a lot of things I could be doing to help myself, help the team,” Ratliff said. “That’s what I’m going to focus on. This was about what, two, three years ago? That’s all behind me.”
Ratliff was given one year of probation and fined after pleading guilty to a January 2013 DWI charge after crashing a pickup truck into an 18-wheeler. He tested at a blood-alcohol level of 0.16, more than twice the legal limit, according to police. At the time, he played for the Dallas Cowboys.
Ratliff didn’t want to go into whether he thought it was a fair suspension considering the incident happened in 2013.
“We’ve been down this road with the NFL and they don’t care to hear it. So be it,” he said. “It’s tough to sit out any game for any reason. Of course, a situation like this doesn’t make it any easier.”
Coach John Fox agreed with the decision not to appeal the suspension, saying it’s better to have it over as soon as possible to eliminate the guessing game about when the penalty would be served.
“I had experience a year ago where we lost a guy the week of a game (to suspension),” Fox said. “So sometimes it doesn’t help the cause. It was going to be kind of what it was and we expected it and we’ll deal with it.”
Ratliff, a four-time Pro Bowl selection in Dallas, had 6.5 sacks last season for the Bears. He can still practice with the team until they begin preparations for the regular-season opener, but on Monday he spent much of the time watching from the side.
Rookie second-round draft pick Eddie Goldman from Florida State is next on the depth chart at nose tackle, although Fox wouldn’t necessarily commit to him as the opening day starter.
“When a door closes for somebody it opens for somebody else,” Fox said. “A lot of players are discovered through those opportunities. I can’t predict the future and I don’t want to try to.”

There are a number of reasons as to why this part of the country offers so much more in this regard.  Some say it is because areas like Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego are more prone to substance abuse related issues.  Others believe that it has to do with Southern California’s higher than average rate of affluence, thus thirsting for more widespread higher-end, private treatment services.  Whatever the reason however, there remains no question as to availability of highly acclaimed facilities and services throughout California.  And when you consider some of the many options currently available in areas like Malibu, West Los Angeles, Orange County and even Palm Springs, most anyone of whom is serious about recovery would surely benefit from much of what there is to offer out here.

For clients in need of higher care, specifically clinical assistance relating to addiction treatment, therapy, psychiatric or even sober living housing, The Addictions Coach has in place an amazing network of highly acclaimed facilities & services throughout Southern California.  Among these are some of Los Angeles’ leading treatment centers and their network service providers.  Our ability to integrate fully customized coaching services within these programs is extremely versatile, and has shown to garner tremendous results over both, the short and long term.

As a sober coach, My primary duty is to provide the scaffolding in the early days of sobriety. I start by to building trust, and help my clients normalize the basics of living an intoxicant-free life. Similar to personal trainer, I will give you the support to lift the weights yourself. I accompany my clients to parties, work functions, business trips, or just through a typical day, encouraging them in their sobriety and helping them stay clean in a world filled with temptation. Some duties vary from case to case, from simply ensuring the client remains abstinent, establishing and ushering a specific plan. Additional support includes spiritual guidance, companionship, mentoring, and motivation in your recovery journey. Recovery is more than just abstinence. I teach clients how to implement tools to handle real-life situations, feelings and triggers as they come up so that they can achieve long-term sobriety. By learning how to embrace and accept all feelings – the good the bad and the ugly – you’ll be able to move gracefully through both the immense joy and the emotional minefields that life presents without having to seek relief in drugs and alcohol.

Kent Paul - Coach at The Addictions Coach.comKent Paul was born in Wheatridge, Co. in 1971. He grew up in a conservative spiritual family. His parents, Terry and Linda have been married for 51 years. He has an older brother, Kevin, and an older sister Kim.

He received a scholarship in both football and baseball his senior year in high school. He decided to play baseball and go to University of Northern Colorado, which was ranked 3rd in the nation for Kinesiology. Weight training for baseball became an extreme passion for Kent, so much so that he decided to get involved in competitive bodybuilding in 1991 at the Mr. Northern Colorado Championships. He took second place in the Heavy weight class, which was very good for his very first competition.

Two years later he spent a summer in Venice, Ca. AKA “Muscle Beach”. That summer changed his life forever. The owner of Venice Beach Gold’s Gym (Ed Connors) approached him and offered a full sponsorship to pursue a bodybuilding carrier. Ed introduced Kent to the best trainers and nutrition gurus in the world. The secrets to transforming the body and the knowledge to maximize human potential would become the key to his success not only in Bodybuilding but also in business.
Kent graduated from college in 1995 with a B.A. in Kinesiology and Nutrition and started his own fitness training business.
In 1998 he became Mr. Colorado. This would open up many doors in his life that would later take him to the national level of bodybuilding. 2000 Kent became world ranked and held that ranking until 2002 when he retired from the sport of bodybuilding.

October 21, 2005 (his birthday) Kent’s world changed forever when he was involved in a car accident that left him with a broken neck. This event led him to his darkest hour. For an entire year Kent did not leave his home in Parker, Co. He was in incredible pain that led to a substance abuse and full on addiction to pills and alcohol.. His world became very small and dark to the point that he wanted his life to end. July 1st, 2006 Kent wrote a suicide note and took action to end his life. God had other plans for him as a miraculous intervention took place in the middle of Kansas with the local police, highway state patrol and his parents.
On July 9th, 2006 Kent made a change in his life that would bring a new discovery of God in his life and change his perspective of himself and the world around him. He made a vow to change his ways and to focus on helping others to break out of personal bondage of addiction and life tragedy.

Kent changed his entire life and fitness transformation business creating systems that does not just focus on the outward appearance but also the growth of the mind and spirit. He has helped transform thousands of people’s lives all around the world thanks to the love and healing of God.
Since this change in Kent’s life God has blessed him in big ways including becoming the official Fitness Consultant and National Judge for Donald Trump’s Miss USA pageants. Official Fitness consultant for Miss. America pageants, Fitness columnist for Douglas County News Press, Official fitness instructor for HARDKORE inc. seen at Invesco Field home of the Denver Broncos, host of Turbo Fit Radio show, seen on FOX news, seen on CBS news, seen on NBC news, seen on WEB MD, Key Note Speaker at American Diabetes Association Expo, official fitness coach on 106.7 FM KBPI fit contest, and official health and fitness columnist for Colorado Healthy Living magazine. Kent has most recently been featured on national television TLC network, “Crown Chasers” as the official fitness trainer and expert. Kent has published over 35 articles on life transformation and the author of “Power from Pain” (The Rise and Fall of Mr. Colorado)

After seeing how difficult and broken the recovery process was, she ultimately decided to dedicate her talents to advocacy and assisting others struggling with addictions and what she calls attachments of any kind. She is a Media Studies and Philosophy cum laude graduate from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and has 12 plus years executive experience in the business world. Boris SchaakBoris Schaak, ISSA Certifed, Founder of Sober Fitness, and celebrity trainer and sober coach, offers you the very best coaching and training available. Boris truly enjoys being a catalyst for helping people understand their untapped potential and how to access it. He has been working professionally in the world of fitness and holistic wellness for 30 years (although he is such great shape that you would not know his age!). Boris is highly skilled and trained in various disciplines and brings 110% to each client.  Boris began his training in yoga, meditation and spirituality as a small child, in West Berlin, Germany. The Martial Arts were the next area that grabbed his attention and drove his passions. When he was 13, he began working with weights in the gym. Boris first moved to the U.S., as a foreign exchange student, a year later and continued his studies of the Martial Arts and his further developed his devotion to the gym. When he was 20, he moved to the U.S. Permanently, to pursue bodybuilding. He learned from some of the industries best names.
Boris won First Place, in his first try, in the Mr. Los Angeles competition! Then, he began training others professionally at Gold’s Gym in Venice, where he got to work with and learn from so many industry leaders in the fields of Meditation, Bodybuilding, Nutrition, Entertainment, and the Medical Profession. Through his own experience of working through training injuries and with those of his clients, he began working more in depth with injury prevention.
This is also when Boris really began to appreciate the importance of proper nutrition and supplementation. After that, he began working at one of the biggest holistic pharmacy and nutrition retailers in West Hollywood. His job there allowed him to meet a Physician that specializes in treating HIV/AIDS, who was really interested in his knowledge and began referring patients to Boris.

He began working as a private bodyguard and working in upscale clubs. The party scene became another place where Boris’ ability to excel evolved into a rapid downward spiral. He battled with addiction to alcohol and drugs for many years, before finding his way back to a life in fitness, through working a Twelve Step program. Boris incorporates his experience in recovery into his approach to the fitness program with his clients.
Boris has been a Personal Trainer, Sober Coach and Sober Companion to many people that have had successful recovery, have regained their physical abilities and expanded upon their career potentials, as a result. We invite you to let his experience work for you.
“As a Professional Trainer and Sober Coach, my fitness approach integrates the elements of physical fitness and nutrition within the scope of recovery and sobriety. This is TOTAL integration- the convergence of mental, spiritual and physical fitness! Seeing the transformation and growth in my clients; physically, emotionally and spiritually, is my passion and mission in life!!! I’m glad to share it with You.”

Growing up, John lived in as many as fifteen different places, and attended a different school for each grade. One Parent moved to another state, and the other went down a road of partying and alcoholism. As a child immersed in an unbalanced environment, he was forced to begin his study of Human nature very early. After an intense spiritual awakening in 2009, he began a search that led him into the study of the many consciousness expanding spiritual traditions in all the different cultures of the world. He balanced the intense Meditational techniques with a study of Biology, Psychology,Nutrition, and alternative therapies. John says that the pressure and stressful situations experienced in active addiction lead people to the entrance of an evolutionary doorway where a person can become a transformed, enlightened/awakened, and optimally functioning Human Being. John provides the tools for a person to make this realization, and attain unrestricted, unlimited freedom. Helping someone attain bliss and freedom within, combined with the creation of a social environment that can stimulate the refinement of the ability to interact with others, is a key factor in John’s approach. Debbie PerkinsDebbie Perkins is a certified International Masters Addiction Coach with an AA in Science, an AAS in Supervision and Management and is one credit shy of a Bachelor’s in Supervision and Management. She is heavily involved in Addiction Recovery running the organization No More Heroin (http://www.nomoreheroin.org), while at the same time owning and running Sober Houses for Women.  Debbie herself is a recovering addict with almost 8 years. But Debbie’s road to recovery has not been easy.

Debbie was molested at the tender age of 6 years old and her abuser gave her alcohol in addition to the sexual abuse he forced on her.  By 10 years old Debbie was a full-blown addict. While she was struggling with her addiction, she lost each of her parents to suicide.  She was raped at 34 years old, while in full-blown addiction and was forced to give birth to her daughter while handcuffed to a bed.

At that time, addiction was not recognized as an illness and so Debbie found herself, like many addicts at the time, in jail and prison. Because she was still keeping her early abuse secret and was unwilling to be honest about her past, she found herself in and out of rehabs and jail, never staying sober for more than 6 months at a time.

Her recovery came when she was sentenced with 2 years of house arrest, daily 12 step support meetings and then 3 years of probation.  During those 5 years she learned to forgive those who had hurt her and learned how to practice asking forgiveness of those who she had hurt during her active addiction.

Debbie learned how to do all this through a 12 step program and is now able to be at peace with her past, remain sober and share her wisdom, strength and hope with others who are still in the grip of their active addiction.  She also is able to recognize that her final judicial accountability was what saved her from a continuous life of addiction, pain, legal troubles and quite likely death from overdose.

Debbie took steps to learn about the field of addiction and recovery and gained national certification in several areas of addiction as well as having her Masters Addiction Coaching Certification.  She uses her knowledge and experience in her Transitional Houses to help her clients learn how to become whole, productive members of society while remaining healthy.

While her journey to sobriety and self-discovery has not been easy, she has learned how to have a life full of dignity, honor and support for fellow addicts who are struggling in the grip of this terrible disease. Debbie uses her experience, strength, hope and knowledge to help others fight and beat their own disease and become healthy productive members of society.

The Scary Truth About Painkiller Addiction
Let’s say you’re in some pain. Maybe you’re recovering from surgery. Or perhaps it’s due to a medical condition that you simply can’t get a handle on. At some point, you’re going to be offered prescription painkillers. Damn straight, they’ll get rid of your pain. But there can also be a significant — and terrifying — cost.

What cost, you ask? Addiction and even accidental death.

Of course, you never bargain for either — you just want your pain to END already. But women are more likely than men to be prescribed these dangerous drugs, and become dependent on them faster.

Here’s everything you need to know about prescription painkillers, including how to stay safe if you absolutely must take them.

Cali Estes - The Addictions Coach is interviewed by The Stir.10 Ways to Stay Friends When Life Gets in the Way
She’s Dealing With the Death of a Loved One
If your best friend’s lost someone she loves, don’t stay away in fear that you’ll say the “wrong”
thing. What’s more important is “listening and just being there until the person processes the
loss,” explains Cali Estes, PhD, a cognitive behavioral therapist and founder of The Addictions
Coach and The Addiction Academy. “Sometimes just having coffee with them in silence is what
the person needs.”

Your Friend’s Wrestling With an Addiction
Maintaining a friendship with someone who’s has an addiction “can be exhausting,” admits Estes.
You’re gonna need to make — and keep — some strong boundaries. “Don’t give them
money or lend your car or other items,” says Estes. But DO keep offering help. You can even
research local professionals and hand your friend a list of phone numbers. “They may be irritated
with you, but stay the course,” urges Estes. “If they get help, they’ll thank you in the end.”

You’ve Had a Blowout Argument
When you and your closest friend have an argument that’s not easily resolved, “it’s important to
decide if you want to ‘be right’ and ‘win’ or if you want to get a resolution that’s workable,” says
Estes. “You generally don’t get both.” With that in mind, be realistic. “Sometimes you have to
give up control to get the desired result,” Estes notes. And that result, of course, is a friendship
that continues.

Turning Leaves

There is a link between substance dependence detoxification, the development of food addiction and the ability to maintain a balanced, sober life.

Produced by Tricia Parido March 3, 2016

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to validate the relationships between substance dependence, withdrawal, food addiction and recovery. The intention is to show how most afflicted with substance addiction have disordered eating habits that during detoxification turn into highly intense cravings for particular food ingredients. And also to illustrate how these particular attributes can be attributed to increased post-acute withdrawal, relapse, and the development of a potential food addiction.

Cali Estes evolved from therapist to helping other therapists build their brands. Cali’s The Addictions Academy is for those who want to transform, innovate and evolve in their practice. Her Academy offers the following programs:

•Masters Addiction Coach (6 month program in Recovery Coaching, Family Recovery, Food Addictions and Gambling Addictions)
•Case Management Training
•Mobile rehab
•Ethics training
•Business marketing and branding
•Rescue Rehab (helps treatment centers streamline their income and train staff)

Cali teaches ethics training because she strongly believes in an ethical practice and will only work with people who run an ethical practice. According to Cali, the industry has sharks, tuna and dolphins. Sharks are those that prey on others’ weaknesses and steal others’ clients. The tuna don’t like to work for much and expect everything to come to them, while the dolphins share their clients. For a thriving practice, swim with the dolphins and not the sharks. In the industry, there’s enough clientele for everyone without picking off other therapists’ clients.

Some therapists make the mistake of thinking that everyone is a prospective client; the truth is, not every client fits with every therapist, so therapists much assist each other in finding the right client fit, not be overprotective and conniving. It is when therapists work together that they become a community of dolphins and not sharks. Those therapists who have a niche practice tend to have more success in their practice than generalists. There is less competition in the clientele pool when you cater to a very specific demographic.

Success in practice doesn’t come from complete selflessness and sacrifice. Cali implores therapists to practice self-care, as they cannot serve others until they serve themselves first. You can serve others and be able to pay your bills at the same time. Having enough money to live on and helping others is mutually exclusive.

What people consider failures in practice are not always what they seem if you shift your paradigm of thought. If you learn from the experience, then it’s not a failure. If you’re a tuna and learn nothing, then you’ll always fail; there’s always a lesson to be learned.

Cali’s two main tenets for success are: make it happen and you can do anything. In order to do anything, you have to be the dolphin and not the tuna, and go out and get what you want. You can do anything if you persevere. The most important indicator of a successful practice is perseverance.

Use of illicit drugs becomes part of Silicon Valley’s work culture. For Google executive Forrest Timothy Hayes, heroin was the killer app. From the way the Santa Cruz cops talk about it, the security camera video that captured a reputed high-price call girl injecting the 51-year-old tech veteran with a fatal dose of the drug aboard his yacht in Santa Cruz was surely horrific. “Cali, I cannot express to you enough how you have had a TREMENDOUS IMPACT on all of these changes.  I truly don’t know what we would do without you.  And knowing that
I\we can contact   you still at anytime when he\I may need guidance and coaching…  I talk about you all the time in my meetings…the next time I see you in person, plan to give you the longest HUG in history. ”

“Cali I know i only saw you a couple of times but I wanted to tell you what has happened with my wife and her vodka habit. I know you said that you never had anyone tell you that they refused to speak to you, but after you spoke to my wife, she dumped the vodka out and quit. It is a small miracle and it lasted  a few months and i waited to call you to make sure it was for real. Thank you very much,” Ron Collette.

“I hired Cali Estes after 3 failed rehab attempts. My manager told me that he was going to cut me from the team if I didn’t get help for my drinking and driving issues. My wife told me I was an embarrassment, but I couldn’t quit.  I was losing everything and I was spiraling down fast. Cali came and helped me get my life on track, she met my coach and put a plan into place for me that worked. I am sober and doing well a year later. “   ~ NBA Player (annoymous)

“As a Doctor I can’t go rehab, I would lose my license. I got Cali’s name and number from a friend that works on Wall Street and he used her for the 7 day program. He stopped using cocaine and  was doing well and I figured it was time for me to quit too. Cali came and showed me her 7 day program that he used. It was great. I felt amazing by the third day and by day 5 I was ready to tackle the world.  I can’t thank her enough. “  ~ Cardiac Surgeon (annoymous)

“I work in a high profile, high stress environment on Wall Street. I don’t have time to deal with rehab and I am not into the whole meeting thing. I called Cali and she came for 7 days and got my life on track. Her Sober Coach stayed for an additional 3 weeks and I felt great. I kept him on for 6 months to ensure that I was good to go with my cocaine habit and stripper habit. ” ~John F., Wall Street Executive

“We hired Cali to go on tour with us and help us stay off heroin, which is tough since we have been using for over 20 years. It is really bad when the whole band is addicted. I didn’t think she could make it happen, but she did. She got us clean. I never performed on stage – in my 20 year career sober. She was there with me the first time I did and she coached me through it. I was F**King terrified.  She got us all through it and stayed with us for 30 days. It was incredible. I feel amazing and I am sober almost 1 year now thanks to her.   ~ Guitar Player for a successful touring Rock Band”

On behalf of myself, and all the attendees from Lakeview Health, we would like to express our gratitude for the training you conducted with us last week. The training was comprehensive, and easy to follow for some employees not as versed in the field of interventions. Following the training, everyone felt confident and comfortable with conducting an intervention. Cali did an excellent job of walking us through the steps, one by one. We now know the importance of the RAAD model and each of it’s components. The phone call and pre-work are just as important as the intervention itself. I would highly recommend Cali and The Addictions Academy to anyone looking to join or excel in the field of Addictions.

“I have now completed three courses with The Addictions Academy: Nationally Certified Gambling Addiction Coach, Life Coach, and Prevention Professional.  My instructor for all three courses was the Program Director, Rev. Kevin T. Coughlin.  He made lecturing and teaching the courses seem so effortless.  His humor, timing and teaching made it so easy for all of his students to understand and retain the material in each course.  I could see and hear that he is a great coach and professional through the experiences that he shared and the techniques of his lectures.  Most importantly he makes the classes fun and exciting with interaction and role play.  I can’t wait to utilize all the skills and tools that I have already learned, and look forward to learning more.  I thank The Addictions Academy, keep up the sensational work!  I can’t wait until the next course!”

I want to thank you again for leading the Intervention training on July 18th. I found that the wealth of personal experience and specific tips that you provided throughout the training were especially helpful. The class was lead in an honest way that showed your commitment to preparing excellent Interventionists. I am very excited about completing the Recovery Coaching trainings in the near future. “I have completed several other training programs for addiction intervention before the Nationally Certified Interventionist Training (NCIP-1) and your program is the best by far. Not only was it cost effective, but the practical experience and interactive web approach should set the standard for the training. The two day intensive was so thorough, I plan to insist that any interventionist I work with complete this program before we work together. Thoughtful and effective! This was the best intervention training of all the programs that I have attended.” Stephen B. “The staff and I thought the training was very well done. The book you sent us has a lot of good information that can be used in the future. It was great to cover so many types of interventions, before the training I was only experienced in the Johnston model. Being able to watch the role play was also a great way to see these in action. “I just wanted to say thank you for the training that you offered on interventions. The written material is informative, and well organized. The live webcam offered an interactive experience that was easy to follow. As a teacher, I found you to be extremely well informed, patient and able to answer all questions professionally and effectively as they arose. “After working for several years in Stockholm, Sweden with clients suffering from addiction, dual diagnosis and mental illness, I consider myself very fortunate to have discovered your course(s) while searching for work/clients after relocating to Los Angeles last year. Your training is top notch with practical step by step instruction and course materials on how to set up a coaching practice and insightful sample case study group exercises. I was amazed at the amount of valuable information, helpful strategies and tips that were presented in the relatively short course duration. I warmly recommend your training to anyone working in this field. Thank you!” 818.877.9892 www.jmmaddictionrecovery.com James M. Michie, Owner, Los Angeles, CA

Cali’s Recovery Coach and Intervention trainings were extremely valuable. In two weekends I learned an enormous amount of information both from Cali and from the participants. Cali is charismatic, dynamic, extremely knowledgeable and experienced and she is smart as a whip!! I left the course wanting more which is the best sign of a great training”. www.faulknertherapy.netEllen Faulkner, Owner, Philadelphia PA

“My name is Debbie Perkins and I took Cali’s Interventionist certification class. I was in addiction all my life and I have been sober for several years. I wanted to start helping people who were in addictive addiction decide to go into treatment. There are several models that a person that is going to do an Intervention can use that I had no clue about. She taught me what I needed to know to be successful in doing an Intervention. I recommend taking her class to anyone who has decided to become an Interventionist! Debbie Perkins www.realintervention.com ” Deb Perkins, Owner, Delray Beach, FL

“ I really enjoyed the training and thought it was very informative. I read through the manual prior to the class and I am happy we didn’t read it work for word. My co workers here were very impressed with my certification and wanted to learn more but I am not sure if they are in the market for something like that at this time. My place of work is called The Granite House in Derry NH” David Megenis, Derry, NH

I took both the Recovery Coach and the Intervention training with Cali and I am extremely pleased that I did. I was skeptical at first of attending a Webinar but it was a great class and I felt like I was in a classroom enviroment. Cali is an outstanding instructor and very personable, no question went unanswered. Cali uses her personal experiences to prepare students for real life situations. I would strongly suggest these courses for anyone who is in the field or wanting to get in the field or recovery coaching and interventions. Joseph R.
