Sports Sober Coach: Should Coach Sarkisian Have Been Fired?

Sports Sober Coach: Should Coach Sarkisian Have Been Fired?

On Tuesday, what was long suspected since Sunday, was made official by the University of Southern California and Pat Hayden. The University’s head football coach was fired because of another alcohol-fueled incident while on school grounds and running the football program.

Coach Steve Sarkisian was under a strict “no alcohol” order by the University after he showed up drunk and on pain meds for a school fundraiser early this year. He mumbled through his speech and embarrassed himself and the University greatly. The school gave him another chance and implemented the strict “no alcohol under any circumstances” guidelines. Stories are beginning to surface that Sarkisian learned of his fate while on a plane to treatment. This brings to light a very passionate debate. Did the University do the right thing?  Especially since the coach was basically in charge of highly impressionable young adults lives to a certain extent. Did they attempt to get the coach treatment after the first major issue or did they sweep it under the carpet and focus back on winning at all costs? Did coach Sarkisian himself admit that he couldn’t do this alone and seek help before he lost a seven-figure job and his career?

These are all questions that I would like to have answered and hear from those of you reading this blog. Did the head coach get what was coming to him or did the University enable his habit and needs to shoulder some of the blame. I sure wouldn’t expect good results finding a heroin addict, rolling down my car window and telling him he is on a strict “no heroin” status. You can read more on this story at the following LA TIMES link http://www.latimes.com/sports/usc/uscnow/la-sp-sarkisian-fired-usc–coach-20151012-story.html and find out more on being extremely proactive in coaching high-end professionals such as ex-coach Sarkisian at Top Rated Addiction Recovery and Sober Coaching Services

The Ten Greatest Reasons to Hire a Professional Coach

The Ten Greatest Reasons to Hire a Professional Coach

sign post -guidance

What is the benefit of hiring a Professional Coach in any field: Life Coach, Business Coach, Fitness Coach, Recovery Coach, Family Recovery Coach, or any other specialized coach?

I get asked this question quite often from both sides of the equation: as an instructor of Professional Master Coaches, and as a successful business woman who utilizes a Professional Coach.  I’ll share with you my top ten reasons why I believe anyone should hire a Professional Coach.

Hello I am Your Coach
Before I share my thoughts with you on the top ten reasons to hire a Professional Coach, I want to define what a Professional Coach is and what they do.

A Professional Coach is:

A highly trained and very skilled individual
A professional with tools to get the job done
A very motivated individual who motivates others
An ethical and responsible person
A caring people person
A very advanced cheerleader
An action-oriented problem solver
A flexible, goal-driven communication specialist
A perception and perspective changer
A blockage buster and solution finder
It’s also important to look at what Professional Coaches are not to truly understand who they really are.

A Professional Coach is not:

A banker or accountant
A therapist or counselor
A sponsor or twelve-step guide
A psychiatrist
A goal or objective setter
A date or romantic interest
A party pal
A person with a conflict of interest in relation to a client
An uneducated or untrained individual
Interested in selfish, unethical, or illegal matters
Now that I have identified what a Professional Coach is and is not, I would like to describe what a coach does.  Coaching is a results and client driven process where the coach assists the client to reach a solution.  It is a development or training process where a client receives support while working towards goals and objectives via specific action plans, where the coach utilizes core competencies, skill sets, and tools to help the client see past blockages and reach solution or meet goals.  There are many different types of coaching:

Coaching Types and Styles:

1. Business Coaching
2. Recovery Coaching
3. Christian Coaching
4. Executive Coaching
5. Life Coaching
6. Financial Coaching
7. Health and Wellness Coaching
8. Fitness coaching
9. Relationship Coaching
10. Personal coaching
11. Family recovery coaching

There are many different types and styles of coaching; the largest difference today is peer coaching and Professional Coaching.  The difference is just like it sounds, peer coaching is peer to peer often volunteer, and Professional Coaching is a highly trained and skilled individual and almost always paid for their services. Professional Coaches use a range of communication skills such as active listening, powerful questioning, paraphrasing, the natural laws of cause and effect, reading body language, tones, and inflections, observation, intuition, action planning, and other activities. Professional Coaching helps an individual to identify their capabilities and skill sets that already exist internally and put them into motion to reach solutions in all coaching fields.

Now I’ve identified what a Professional Coach is and isn’t and what they do. You have to be prepared before you execute; now you’re ready to get the information you’ve been waiting for. What are the ten greatest benefits of hiring these highly trained and skilled individuals?

  • Every problem has a solution because the problem defines the solution; there is perspective and perception problems that block most clients from getting to solutions on their own, Profession Coaches help clients get past these blocks and reach solutions.
  • We all are human, thus we all suffer from the human condition. We all have blind spots; Professional Coaches can help clients can point out areas of weakness that clients miss or don’t see.
  • We all need someone to hold us accountable. Clients can take on greater responsibility by meeting with their coach on action plans with specific time tables and follow-up.
  • A Professional Coach will help redirect the client when they are off track with their action plan. The coach is trained to be flexible; however, to keep the plan moving forward toward solution.
  • A Professional Coach is trained to bring out the very best in the client through communication skills and other coaching techniques. The client won’t just be spinning in circles, but actually, always moving forward toward solution.
  • The coach brings extra talent to the table. When the client sets the goal, then the coach and client brainstorm together to reach solution; there is twice the creativity.
  • We all need spiritual sounding boards in our lives. Even coaches need coaches! I haven’t met a highly successful person yet who doesn’t have a coach!
  • Professional Coaches celebrate all the victories with the client, no matter how big or small. A win is a win!
  • Clients can communicate with their coach in confidence and confidentiality. The coach will always be supportive and non-judgmental. The coach may suggest change; however, it will be in a positive and nurturing way.
  • Professional Coaches get results! They bring out the best in clients and expect the champion from within to show him or herself.

This really is a no brainer!  If you could achieve your goal, increase your bottom line, lose those pounds, win that championship, or at least increase your chances for success, wouldn’t you do what it takes?  Professional Coaches make all the difference!

Old School Drug Making a Violent Comeback in our Nation’s Capital

Old School Drug Making a Violent Comeback in our Nation’s Capital

pcp drug forms

This is 2015, not 1981, and PCP use is on a violent rise in our Nation’s Capital, Washington DC.

PCP (phencyclidine) is an illegal hallucinogenic drug notorious for causing violent and bizarre behaviors.

Those who are old enough will remember a huge PCP problem gripped the United States in the ‘80s. Widespread abuse caused public panic and then, somewhat mysteriously, the drug seemingly faded away.

Fast-forward to the present day; PCP usage in Washington DC, our nation’s capital, is rampant. In fact, abuse of the hallucinogen is far higher in DC than in any other major U.S. city. The disturbing trend is best seen among people who are arrested and brought in to area jails, with an overwhelming majority of DC inmates testing positive for PCP during the booking process.

PCP users rank among the smallest group of illegal drug users in the United States but this small group causes the most violent issues, according to law enforcement officers. And to add insult to injury,  there are more law enforcement officers per resident in Washington DC than anywhere else in the country. So this adds to the constant contact between users and police. Once ingested, usually by dippers, this powerful hallucinogenic causes the user to become overly aggressive and violent.

Crazy stories have surfaced like when rapper, Big Lurch, killed his girlfriend, split her chest open and ate parts of her lungs while high on PCP. He was found naked in the street covered in her blood. Yet, he recalls nothing of the incident.

This is just one of many violent and sickening stories that are fueled by this drug. Washington DC police have done their best to Crack down on open air PCP drug sales and have even made penalties extremely harsh for offenders but PCP is extremely hard to find during its export and import due to its liquid form and amber color. It resembles apple juice and is hard to detect.

Have you encountered any use lately?  What is your experience with the drug?

Relationship, Divorce and Marriage Coaching Training

Therapists, counselors, and coaches often report that working with couples is one of the most difficult challenges. The course is designed to provide a foundation for helping with relationships issues, whether working with an individual or with a couple.

Research has shown that the quality of a person’s relationship affects their physical health, their mental health, their career success, and their substance use. Improving relationships can improve every area of life. When you help your clients build strong and healthy relationships, you are giving them the gift of better health and greater happiness in their lives.

Our program in relationship coaching will show professional coaches and counselors how to work with clients to break out of destructive relationship patterns, and develop strong and positive relationships in their lives. Many clients feel stuck, like they are doomed to repeat the same relationship patterns over and over again. In this course, you’ll get the tools and skills to help your clients change these patterns and heal the underlying emotional wounds. This approach helps clients break the cycle they’ve created for themselves.

This 12-hour Relationship Coaching course will provide you with the tools to: Determine whether a couple is suitable for coaching, or if this would be more damaging to the client. Relationship coaching can be done effectively with individuals or with couples. Coaches will learn to assess which is most beneficial for each client. You’ll learn the skills to recognize these patterns and recognize underlying emotional needs that create destructive relationship patterns.

Many people carry unmet attachment needs into their relationships, and become frustrated that they cannot get these needs met by their partners. You’ll learn how to recognize these attachment needs and guide your client to getting them met. Empower your clients to change their relationship patterns and provide them with the tools to communicate more effectively with their partners. Package your services in a way that attracts the clients you most want to work with. Learn what it is that really attracts clients to a relationship coach, and how to target your ideal clients. This course is ideal for therapists, coaches, counselors, and addiction coaches.

Los Angeles Sober Coach: Infidelity, Sex Addiction, and Ashley Madison

Los Angeles Sober Coach:  Infidelity, Sex Addiction, and Ashley Madison
www.theaddictionscoach.com  1.00.706.0318
couple hurt
This Summer, a story broke that has caused more stir than a lot of headlines in recent memory—the Ashley Madison hack. If you missed the story, Ashley Madison is the world’s most popular online dating site, a Toronto-based website that facilitates affairs for married people.
Last week, hackers released the usernames and/or emails for 32-million of the site’s users. As you can imagine, since the data leak, the legal, social and psychological implications have been widespread. The issue at the core of this story, is not who was on the website, but why. Until this story broke, many people were probably in the dark about what an epidemic infidelity really is, but the numbers speak for themselves: 57% of men admit to having cheated in a relationship, 54% of women admit to having cheated in a relationship. There are approximately 40 million registered users on AshleyMadison.com. We also have to inflate these numbers a bit to get the real picture, since the top numbers only apply to those who have admitted infidelity, and there’s obviously another portion of the population committing adultery without the aid of a website.
Infidelity and sexual addiction are addictions that have more shame attached to them than any other addictions in the world. What many people don’t realize, is that infidelity rarely happens due to a problem in the relationship, it is driven by a few factors: feeling “not good enough”, feelings of abandonment, and ultimately—trauma. These feelings of abandonment, rejection and low self-worth are things we have all felt at some point in our lives, and as Kim Barthel and Theo Fleury discuss in ‘Conversations with a Rattlesnake’, many of us feel these for the first time as infants. “Negative triggers can come from implicit memories of early developmental trauma, such as chaos, neglect, abuse. Infants have to learn to read their caregivers in order to know how to communicate their needs. These back and forth interactions between babies and their parents are the earliest implicit memories we have.” — Kim Barthel, from ‘Conversations with a Rattlesnake’
These early developments of human connection influence how we interact with other people as we grow older. Different forms of trauma may be involved in the development of sex addiction. The trauma may be developmental, or there may be excessive encouragement of sexuality early on. Trauma, such as sexual abuse, can also create unhealthy sexual development, interfering with physical, emotional, and psychological processes conducive to healthy sexual behavior. We already know that one in three people has experienced some form of trauma in their lives, so what makes sexual addiction or infidelity different from any other addiction? Nothing.
True sex addicts, suffer from a cycle of self-destructive behaviour. A pain agent or emotional discomfort (fear, shame, anger, for example) triggers the cycle. The person removes themselves from their emotions yielding a kind of numbing state, eliminating awareness of consequences, and leaving only awareness of pleasure.”
 — Patrick J. Carnes, Ph.D., sexual disorder researcher. When the addiction is triggered, the addict yearns for that numbing state, which is why they will look to places where they can feed their addiction easily, such as sex lines or websites. Enter infidelity. “If you don’t deal with the trauma you’ve suffered, the patterns will repeat themselves and manifest in many different ways.” — Theo Fleury, from ‘Conversations with a Rattlesnake’.
Now “dealing with the trauma” is a very interesting phrase because we are going to see a fall out on both sides of the coin when it comes to the hacking of Ashley Madison. For those married men and women who have now been made public and who now have some explaining to do with their significant other, we will now see a spike in drug and alcohol abuse as a coping mechanism. As we stated above, this isn’t the way to go or deal with the predicament that they have put themselves and their spouse in. And on the flip side of this uncomfortable situation, we will see a spike in drug and alcohol abuse in the spouse who was cheated on. The betrayal may be too much for a person who has struggled with drugs and alcohol in the past. Because this addictive behavior involves two people joined in marriage most of the time, we strongly encourage those affected to look for help and guidance at Top Rated Addiction Recovery and Sober Coaching Services or call us at 1-800-706-0318

 heroin needle
Roman Montano had barely learned cursive when he was asked to sign his first baseball. Parents of teammates had watched him dominate game after game in Albuquerque’s Little League during the summer of 2000, mowing down batters and belting home runs. The autograph requests were mostly facetious, but what they signified was clear: The kid was going somewhere. The next few years only confirmed that notion.
Roman grew to 6’6″ and 250 pounds. He made a mockery of the weight room at Eldorado High and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.9. As a sophomore defensive  lineman he was honorable mention all-state in Class 5A. He also joined the basketball team his senior year, giving in to the pleadings of the coach, and was instantly the Eagles’ best player. And after high school, when he trained with the legion of MMA fighters based in Albuquerque, they encouraged him to compete as a heavyweight.  Baseball though, was always his favorite sport—”the most funnest,” as he had put it to the Albuquerque Tribune when he was 12. He once struck out all 18 batters in a Thunderbird League game. The towering righty was Eldorado High’s ace, his fastball reaching the 90s. The second starter? Ken Giles, now a flame-throwing Phillies reliever. “You’re talking about a guy with a ton of potential: size, natural ability, attitude,” Giles says. “Everyone wanted to be him, but everyone wanted to be around him, too. The first word I would  use to describe Roman is lovable.”
A foot injury his junior year didn’t derail Roman. He needed minor surgery on a small bone, but he popped some OxyContin and after a few weeks was back on the mound. His senior year Roman planned to lead Eldorado to a state title and then declare for the 2008 major league draft (the Braves had expressed the most interest in him), spurning about 20 Division I scholarship offers. Before the season, though, Roman committed one of those judgment-deprived acts for which teenagers are known. He and some friends used a stolen credit card at a mall. They got caught. The school found out. Though it was Roman’s first offense, he was kicked off the team. Humiliated, angry and depressed, Roman thought back to the numbing effect of the OxyContin. His prescription had run out, but that wasn’t much of an impediment. In the upscale Northeast Heights—more High School Musical Albuquerque than Breaking Bad Albuquerque—painkillers were competing with marijuana and alcohol as the party drug of choice. “There are pill parties,” says Roman’s younger brother, Beau. “[Pills are] so easy to get. They’re everywhere.”
Roman was soon in the grip of Oxy. He lost interest in baseball. He showed up high for graduation. JoAnn Montano and her husband, Bo, who owns a wheel-alignment and body-shop business, figured their son was just floundering—until JoAnn caught him using. She took him to an addiction center, and he was prescribed Suboxone to treat his opioid dependency.Roman, though, couldn’t fully kick his habit. Before graduation he had switched to a cheaper substance that offered the same high at a lower price: heroin.  At first Roman smoked “black” (black-tar heroin), a relatively crude version of the drug that was easy to obtain. Then he began using intravenously. But he hid his addiction well. He stayed on Suboxone, took up competitive bodybuilding and started training at an MMA gym. He had a job selling phones for Verizon. “He looked so healthy, a big, strapping guy, not like a junkie,” says Bo. “He was back doing his athletics. We thought the addiction was behind us. We didn’t know how cunning and how manipulative this drug is.”
On May 2, 2012, Roman was supposed to lift weights with his father in the morning. Roman didn’t show up, and texts to him went unanswered. His fiancée, Mikaila Lovato, couldn’t find him either.  In the evening two chaplains went to the Montanos’ house, asking for Roman’s next of kin. They said that Roman had been found slumped in the driver’s seat of his car behind a FedEx store, a syringe in his arm, the motor running. He was 22 and dead from a heroin overdose. This is just one personal story of many that are now flooding our sports teams. Heroin overdoses have tripled in the past 5 years in the sports industry and it all seems to start with the same story.  An injury leading to pain pills, the pills leading to heroin and heroin leading to overdoses and death. We are here to help at Top Rated Addiction Recovery and Sober Coaching Services Don’t let your addiction take your life.

7 Secrets of a Sober Companion

A sober companion is not a sponsor, a lawyer, accountant, advisor, bookie, or lover!  A sober companion is an individual, working full- time with clients in a recovery coaching role.  At times nights, weekends, extended periods, or twenty-four hours a day, travel, live in, from several weeks to months, or longer.  The relationship begins with treatment discharge, or where there is need. The client returning home from treatment, leaves a drug-free environment for a situation where they know there could be problems. A Long Term Recovery Coach or Sober Companion will provide the symbolic safety of treatment.  A Long Term Sober Companion will introduce the client to the modalities of recovery; help them deal with triggers, and help them with an action plan. A Long Term Recovery Coach or Sober Companion will help the client to make life changes and work toward solutions needed.

Secret #1: Sober companions are highly trained professionals.
Sober companions go through rigorous training learning tools, techniques, skill sets, and competencies that aid them in their work.  Granted not all companions are the same, it depends on where they were trained and their level of training.

Secret #2: Sober companions are held to very high ethical standards.
Ethics are a very important part of any sober companion’s training.  They must learn all of the requirements and set boundaries, follow rules and regulations, and expectations.  There are ten categories of ethical standards that all companions are held to:
Fraud related conduct
Safety and welfare
Professional standards
Confidentiality
Unlawful conduct
Sexual Misconduct
Exploitation of clients
Record Keeping
Cooperation with investigations
Assisting unqualified practice

Secret #3: The practice of sober companions is goal and client driven.
Although the companion can assist with the action plan, the client must set the goal.  The companion never ever sets the goal in the action plan for the client.  Once the client sets the goal the companion will help with the action and specifics with follow up and time tables of when each task must be completed for success.  Action plans lead to success.
Secret #4: If you don’t like working with a certain sober companion, you can choose a different one.
Not all people click!  Sometimes two people just don’t mesh.  If you find that your companion is a dud, or they bore you to death, simply find a different one.  A word to the warning though, if this keeps happening it may be you.  You should be happy with your companion; you will be spending a good deal of time with them.
Secret #5: Sober companions will go to special events with you and help you make it through the event sober.
Sometimes weddings, funerals, and major life events can be gigantic triggers for those in early recovery.  Sober companions will go with you to events and help guide you through all of your triggers and provide you with coping mechanisms to get through sober and safe.  It doesn’t matter if you’re a lead singer playing a gig, or the best man in your cousin’s wedding, a sober companion will dress the part, and be right there with you.
Secret #6: All sober companions are not the same.
Sober companions come from all walks of life, all different backgrounds.  Some companions are in recovery, some are not, some are religious, some are not, some are spiritual, some are funny, some are more highly educated than others, and they have many different perspectives and worldviews.  The most important factor is that you find a sober companion who is highly trained.

Case Study

Case Study

1. Problem: “Jack” was a seasoned Executive in a Tech firm that was set to receive a big promotion. The problem was that Jack was a bit of a drinker. When Jack drank he claimed to black out and not remember much the next day. At the Company Party, Jack drank and not only make inappropriate sexual remarks towards a female coworker, he groped her. The Tech firm called us to discreetly come in and ‘handle the problem’ so as to avoid firing Jack (he was after all a great employee and innovator, he just had ‘this one vice’” alcohol.

Average company solution: Call the EAP provider and HR. EAP is NOT equipped to handle addiction and more importantly high profile bad behaviors that put the company in the spotlight. Plus, who actually wants to confront a high level executive on their bad behavior? TACA will.

TACA Solution: We arrive like Gladiators in Suits, have a pow wow with Jack and whisk him away to treatment or at home services where he can be afforded the tools to handle his drinking and behavioral issues. This permits the company to handle any damage control, keep a great employee and handle the bad behavior. @TACA we understand the corporate culture and can integrate ourselves discreetly, swiftly and effectively.

2. Problem: “Bert” is a First Responder. He flies the emergency helicopter to rescue individuals. Bert loves his job and needs it to feed and clothe his family of four. Bert had an accident and damaged his back. He was given opiates for pain and became addicted. Bert does not see himself as an addict, because after all these were prescribed by a doctor. To return to work, Bert must pass a urine test. He has weaned himself down to very little pain meds per day and is refusing detox, treatment or any inpatient services, because in his mind he is not ‘one of those drug addict junkies”. He also would have to take 28 days off from work, time which is not paid and his family will suffer.

Average Solution: Go to treatment or lose your job.

TACA Solution: The Doctors and staff @TACA can assist Bert in not only getting off the meds, we can assist with him staying off the meds. Using holistic psychology, vitamins and all natural products we can help him stay off the pain meds. We will teach offer yoga, acupuncture, cold laser and other healing modalities along with therapy and coaching to get his life back on track. Out of the box thinking, produces great results. We come to him and keep him out of the limelight.

3. Problem: “Janet” has a 16 year old son that is using heroin and alcohol. She has called the police twice on him when he stole her car and pawned her jewelry. She has spoken to school officials, friends and family and seems to be at wits end with what to do. She doesn’t want to send him to jail, but he is refusing treatment.

Average Solution: Send him to jail, he may “learn to stop using drugs” or send him to a 28 day adolescent program.

TACA Solution: Janet needs coaching on how to handle the addiction and education on what is going on. We offer wrap around family services to Janet to educate her, coach her and even counsel her as necessary. We will intervention on her son, send him to a specialized program for long term sobriety and behavioral health management. He can complete school there and even begin college. We will negotiate with the location for payment for Janet. We will coordinate case management services and continue working with Janet so she understands what will occur when he returns home and how to handle his behaviors. We will also coach the rest of the family and then place her son with a sober companion or a coach upon release. Addition of the family services and family education is essential in assisting her son change his behavior. By teaching the family how to change their own behavior, the client will change his.

4. Problem: “Kurt” is a CEO of a large tech firm and enjoys the use of cocaine and escorts to ‘relieve stress’. He is interested in cutting back on his use and does not want to affect his job, but he is not interested in stopping altogether. He feels his use of both drugs and sex are well deserved after 80 hour work weeks.

Average Solution: Force Kurt into treatment by threat of loss of job. Everyone will know he is in ‘rehab’.

TACA Solution: Meet the client right where they are. Contain the worst behaviors first, and ask Kurt what his goals are and consequences of serious behavioral issues in both workplace and home life. Plan to meet Kurt after work hours with our mobile rehab component and sober coach services. Accompany Kurt on any work excursions to instill healthy behavior, assist with harm reduction and ways to reduce the problematic consequences of choices. Work with him on lessening the behaviors and increasing the time between use and working on a safer manner to engage in his behaviors. When client is ready we continue to reduce the amount of drug use and use of escorts. Contain any work issues and buffer to keep company and job out of limelight.

We know, it is one of the most commonly asked questions we get. Food Addiction Coach

Food Addiction Coach Help for Eating Disorders

Oversight, guidance and recovery from bulimia, anorexia, overeating and more…

Top Food Addiction Coach for Bulimia, Anorexia and Over EatingOf the many differences between The Addictions Coach and other sober & recovery coaching firms, one of the biggest is the fact that we have the credentials and expertise to help not only drug addicts and alcoholics, but also those suffering from food addictions & eating disorders. From bulimia to anorexia to over-eating and beyond, to diving even deeper and helping those struggling with underlying mental health issues (dual-diagnosis disorders) that perpetuate the damaging behaviors, a “Food Addiction Coach” from The Addictions Coach is truly unlike anything else…

Process addictions like eating disorders can be very different than substance abuse related matters, and effectively treating them can pose tricky scenarios that require a vast expertise in human behaviors and mental health conditions. While there certainly are similarities between eating disorders and drug or alcohol addictions in some respects, a key difference that must always be managed is the fact that you still must learn to eat every day within healthy parameters, whereas a sober alcoholic doesn’t still need to drink 3 times a day in order to sustain life. In the rooms of Overeaters Anonymous (OA) they call this, “Letting the tiger out of the cage 3 times a day.”

There are many different types of behaviors and obsessive thoughts within the minds of those struggling with eating disorders. Whatever the reason/s may be that drive you or your loved one through the potentially fatal insanity of anorexia, bulimia, over-eating or other variation, please know that there are proven solutions and treatments out there, treatments that have shown great success among many others! And The Addictions Coach is much more than just your ally or recovery guide right now, in fact we are your full-scope coach and companion throughout this recovery process, and we offer you a level of expertise and integrative support that is rarely matched.

Dr. Cali Estes and her team understand Food Addictions and their many variations. In fact Cali battled a food addiction and eating disorder in general for a number of years before learning to combat her own demons…she has now been helping many others through her coaching & companion services for over 18 years! Her seasoned and hand picked team of experts and Certified Food Addictions Coaches are on-hand to assist you with yours or your loved one’s eating disorder.

The Addictions Coach provides food addictions coaching, companion & recovery services nationwide. We do however have several primary hubs nationwide in which we offer near 24/7 staffing, these include: Miami, FL, Palm Beach County, FL, Los Angeles, CA, Dallas, TX, Manhattan, NY, Philadelphia, PA, Houston, TX, Orange County, CA and several others.

In addition to nationally licensed & credentialed coaching for food addictions and eating disorders, we also offer the following services:

  • Entertainers & ActingWhether it’s a situation on-set with the lead supporting actor who’s out of control with drug use, or a group on tour who’s lead guitarist’s heroin habit is no longer manageable, this service will be 100% tailored to the needs of the client as well as the supporting crews.
  • Executives, Politicians, etcSometimes this can mean providing full-scope private services (and medical detox) at 36,000 feet over the Pacific, or in a Manhattan hotel or even in our nation’s capitol.
  • Matters requiring speed, efficacy and discretionWe have provided our 3 to 10 day plus concierge and mobile services to anyone from the alcoholic housewife with nothing to do, to the preppy college kid with the secret cocaine habit, to even US and foreign dignitaries desperately weaving between the career, the media and the bar or drug dealer.

There is no question that this is a program perfectly designed and setup for those in the public eye, such as actors, actresses, musicians and professional athletes, however, this program can work phenomenally in nearly any scenario we have ever faced! Private, concierge alternative to inpatient addiction treatment for substance use disorders and more. We get to the root cause of the issues and solve the problems. We get results where treatment centers fail.

While we tailor the entire program to the specific client, we specialize in both medical as well as holistic modalities, such as: yoga & fitness, life coahcing, recovery coaching, nutraceuticals, nutrition & diet, meditation, wellness and stress reduction. This is all in addition to both our standard as well as our expanded concierge, mobile programs. Our Sober On Demand™ Concept simply works.

The Scary Truth About Painkiller Addiction
Let’s say you’re in some pain. Maybe you’re recovering from surgery. Or perhaps it’s due to a medical condition that you simply can’t get a handle on. At some point, you’re going to be offered prescription painkillers. Damn straight, they’ll get rid of your pain. But there can also be a significant — and terrifying — cost.

What cost, you ask? Addiction and even accidental death.

Of course, you never bargain for either — you just want your pain to END already. But women are more likely than men to be prescribed these dangerous drugs, and become dependent on them faster.

Here’s everything you need to know about prescription painkillers, including how to stay safe if you absolutely must take them.

Cali Estes - The Addictions Coach is interviewed by The Stir.10 Ways to Stay Friends When Life Gets in the Way
She’s Dealing With the Death of a Loved One
If your best friend’s lost someone she loves, don’t stay away in fear that you’ll say the “wrong”
thing. What’s more important is “listening and just being there until the person processes the
loss,” explains Cali Estes, PhD, a cognitive behavioral therapist and founder of The Addictions
Coach and The Addiction Academy. “Sometimes just having coffee with them in silence is what
the person needs.”

Your Friend’s Wrestling With an Addiction
Maintaining a friendship with someone who’s has an addiction “can be exhausting,” admits Estes.
You’re gonna need to make — and keep — some strong boundaries. “Don’t give them
money or lend your car or other items,” says Estes. But DO keep offering help. You can even
research local professionals and hand your friend a list of phone numbers. “They may be irritated
with you, but stay the course,” urges Estes. “If they get help, they’ll thank you in the end.”

You’ve Had a Blowout Argument
When you and your closest friend have an argument that’s not easily resolved, “it’s important to
decide if you want to ‘be right’ and ‘win’ or if you want to get a resolution that’s workable,” says
Estes. “You generally don’t get both.” With that in mind, be realistic. “Sometimes you have to
give up control to get the desired result,” Estes notes. And that result, of course, is a friendship
that continues.

Turning Leaves

There is a link between substance dependence detoxification, the development of food addiction and the ability to maintain a balanced, sober life.

Produced by Tricia Parido March 3, 2016

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to validate the relationships between substance dependence, withdrawal, food addiction and recovery. The intention is to show how most afflicted with substance addiction have disordered eating habits that during detoxification turn into highly intense cravings for particular food ingredients. And also to illustrate how these particular attributes can be attributed to increased post-acute withdrawal, relapse, and the development of a potential food addiction.

Cali Estes evolved from therapist to helping other therapists build their brands. Cali’s The Addictions Academy is for those who want to transform, innovate and evolve in their practice. Her Academy offers the following programs:

•Masters Addiction Coach (6 month program in Recovery Coaching, Family Recovery, Food Addictions and Gambling Addictions)
•Case Management Training
•Mobile rehab
•Ethics training
•Business marketing and branding
•Rescue Rehab (helps treatment centers streamline their income and train staff)

Cali teaches ethics training because she strongly believes in an ethical practice and will only work with people who run an ethical practice. According to Cali, the industry has sharks, tuna and dolphins. Sharks are those that prey on others’ weaknesses and steal others’ clients. The tuna don’t like to work for much and expect everything to come to them, while the dolphins share their clients. For a thriving practice, swim with the dolphins and not the sharks. In the industry, there’s enough clientele for everyone without picking off other therapists’ clients.

Some therapists make the mistake of thinking that everyone is a prospective client; the truth is, not every client fits with every therapist, so therapists much assist each other in finding the right client fit, not be overprotective and conniving. It is when therapists work together that they become a community of dolphins and not sharks. Those therapists who have a niche practice tend to have more success in their practice than generalists. There is less competition in the clientele pool when you cater to a very specific demographic.

Success in practice doesn’t come from complete selflessness and sacrifice. Cali implores therapists to practice self-care, as they cannot serve others until they serve themselves first. You can serve others and be able to pay your bills at the same time. Having enough money to live on and helping others is mutually exclusive.

What people consider failures in practice are not always what they seem if you shift your paradigm of thought. If you learn from the experience, then it’s not a failure. If you’re a tuna and learn nothing, then you’ll always fail; there’s always a lesson to be learned.

Cali’s two main tenets for success are: make it happen and you can do anything. In order to do anything, you have to be the dolphin and not the tuna, and go out and get what you want. You can do anything if you persevere. The most important indicator of a successful practice is perseverance.

“This woman has helped me through my active addiction days and has helped guide my family and myself into a positive and healthy direction. I met Cali 5 years ago when I first asked for help. I was broken down and beat up. Alcohol and drugs continued to knock me down again and again. Cali was always there to pick me up. But this isn’t about me. This is about a woman who has dedicated her life to help people like myself. You are an inspiration to me and I am forever grateful for you!” John Casteneda

I am happy to say that God has continually brought this lady into my personal life scope via one click at a time. I have checked her website over and over again about certification as a Recovery Coach.
Well my friends, when I heard a podcast with her this morning where she talked about us all working together in recovery, like dolphins, not tuna or sharks, it resonated…loudly. I’m in.
IMAC and Sober Companion coming, ATL style. Thanks Cali Estes! I’m very excited to begin to serve others along with you. With this certification and my JMT certification I will be in a unique perspective to help others see their authentic purpose in life and learn to thrive with personal growth and leadership.

“I have been doing this work for 20 years just to help. After speaking with cali she put me in touch with Stephen who is going to work out a scholarship with me. I can’t tell you how grateful I am. I have worked from the Park bench to the Penthouse and can’t wait to do it again!! Nice Job Cali Estes.”

Hey Cali. It’s Brad P. You helped me through a rough time in my life while I lived on Brickell. Was thinking about you and your husband when I bought my iron maiden ticket. Lol. I hope all is well with you guys. Thanks again for your guidance. I’m doing very well. Happy. Stable. Sober. Thanks to you.

“Cali, I cannot express to you enough how you have had a TREMENDOUS IMPACT on all of these changes.  I truly don’t know what we would do without you.  And knowing that
I\we can contact   you still at anytime when he\I may need guidance and coaching…  I talk about you all the time in my meetings…the next time I see you in person, plan to give you the longest HUG in history. ”

“Cali I know i only saw you a couple of times but I wanted to tell you what has happened with my wife and her vodka habit. I know you said that you never had anyone tell you that they refused to speak to you, but after you spoke to my wife, she dumped the vodka out and quit. It is a small miracle and it lasted  a few months and i waited to call you to make sure it was for real. Thank you very much,” Ron Collette.

“I hired Cali Estes after 3 failed rehab attempts. My manager told me that he was going to cut me from the team if I didn’t get help for my drinking and driving issues. My wife told me I was an embarrassment, but I couldn’t quit.  I was losing everything and I was spiraling down fast. Cali came and helped me get my life on track, she met my coach and put a plan into place for me that worked. I am sober and doing well a year later. “   ~ NBA Player (annoymous)

“As a Doctor I can’t go rehab, I would lose my license. I got Cali’s name and number from a friend that works on Wall Street and he used her for the 7 day program. He stopped using cocaine and  was doing well and I figured it was time for me to quit too. Cali came and showed me her 7 day program that he used. It was great. I felt amazing by the third day and by day 5 I was ready to tackle the world.  I can’t thank her enough. “  ~ Cardiac Surgeon (annoymous)

“I work in a high profile, high stress environment on Wall Street. I don’t have time to deal with rehab and I am not into the whole meeting thing. I called Cali and she came for 7 days and got my life on track. Her Sober Coach stayed for an additional 3 weeks and I felt great. I kept him on for 6 months to ensure that I was good to go with my cocaine habit and stripper habit. ” ~John F., Wall Street Executive

“We hired Cali to go on tour with us and help us stay off heroin, which is tough since we have been using for over 20 years. It is really bad when the whole band is addicted. I didn’t think she could make it happen, but she did. She got us clean. I never performed on stage – in my 20 year career sober. She was there with me the first time I did and she coached me through it. I was F**King terrified.  She got us all through it and stayed with us for 30 days. It was incredible. I feel amazing and I am sober almost 1 year now thanks to her.   ~ Guitar Player for a successful touring Rock Band”

This manual is an excellent resource for the Christian Recovery Coach, and presents a biblical view in a precise manner that gives the reader a firm basis to begin recovery coaching with confidence. It hits all the main points without burdening the reader with irrelevant material. I highly recommend this manual as a resource for anyone entering this field recovery coaching.

On behalf of myself, and all the attendees from Lakeview Health, we would like to express our gratitude for the training you conducted with us last week. The training was comprehensive, and easy to follow for some employees not as versed in the field of interventions. Following the training, everyone felt confident and comfortable with conducting an intervention. Cali did an excellent job of walking us through the steps, one by one. We now know the importance of the RAAD model and each of it’s components. The phone call and pre-work are just as important as the intervention itself. I would highly recommend Cali and The Addictions Academy to anyone looking to join or excel in the field of Addictions.

“I have now completed three courses with The Addictions Academy: Nationally Certified Gambling Addiction Coach, Life Coach, and Prevention Professional.  My instructor for all three courses was the Program Director, Rev. Kevin T. Coughlin.  He made lecturing and teaching the courses seem so effortless.  His humor, timing and teaching made it so easy for all of his students to understand and retain the material in each course.  I could see and hear that he is a great coach and professional through the experiences that he shared and the techniques of his lectures.  Most importantly he makes the classes fun and exciting with interaction and role play.  I can’t wait to utilize all the skills and tools that I have already learned, and look forward to learning more.  I thank The Addictions Academy, keep up the sensational work!  I can’t wait until the next course!”

I want to thank you again for leading the Intervention training on July 18th. I found that the wealth of personal experience and specific tips that you provided throughout the training were especially helpful. The class was lead in an honest way that showed your commitment to preparing excellent Interventionists. I am very excited about completing the Recovery Coaching trainings in the near future. As I mentioned in the training, I would be very interested in any opportunity to shadow or observe an intervention by you or a member of your team. Further, please consider me for any role in which you feel I might be able to add value to your team in Southern California. I am extremely impressed with your work, your approach, and you as a person, and I would be extremely fortunate for any opportunity to continue to grow and learn from you. Drug Rehab Kat Kus

“I have completed several other training programs for addiction intervention before the Nationally Certified Interventionist Training (NCIP-1) and your program is the best by far. Not only was it cost effective, but the practical experience and interactive web approach should set the standard for the training.
