Is Adderall legal methamphetamine?

Well, both prescription Adderall and methamphetamine are stimulants. Both are extremely addictive with severe addictive consequences. In the past decade, meth addiction has risen to the forefront of drug addictions and it has risen alongside the prescription drug epidemic. When we talk about prescription drug abuse and addiction we often think about opiate pain killers but prescription Adderall used to treat ADHD, is quickly becoming one of the most abused prescription drugs. Adderall is made up of two stimulants, amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. Adderall is listed as a Schedule II Controlled Substance because of its make up of powerful stimulants and the potential for addiction. Adderall use skyrocketed over the past decade as it was widely used as a study aid as it helps people stay awake and focused for long periods of time. One recent study showed that 30% of Adderall users abuse the drug in one way or another. People get a false sense of security thinking that prescription drugs are safer than illegal street drugs and this just isn’t true. Meth users switched over to Adderall thinking it was safer because of the fact that it is prescribed and it has similar effects.
Adderall and methamphetamine are very similar on a molecular level thus giving the user very similar “highs” The big difference is that meth breaks the brain’s blood barrier faster making it that much more addictive. Meth also contains other chemicals making it neurotoxic which causes permanent brain damage. Both of these drugs also have very similar side effects such as restlessness, insomnia, irritability, loss of appetite, depression and weight loss. So even though Adderall and meth are both stimulants with very similar highs, calling Adderall the legal meth might be taking it a bit too far. Meth is far more addictive and causes permanent brain damage in users and has only one purpose, to get the user high. Adderall is meant to medically help those suffering from ADHD and wasn’t created to get a person high. But, with that being said, they are both addictive and they both destroy lives if abused.
