We hear it time and time again, a star NFL athlete gets a DUI and the charges are dropped. A NBA player beats someone up and gets a few anger management classes. We hear about the MLB player who buys illegal performance-enhancing drugs to gain a competitive edge and it’s swept under the carpet. And God forbid someone gets killed, as did happen when a NFL wide-receiver killed someone driving drunk and was allowed back into the league. Over and over we hear about star athletes breaking the law and seemingly getting by with little or no punishment what so ever. Until NOW. An Arizona judge decided “Not this time”…”Not in my courtroom”.

As seen on the highly circulated video from the arresting officers body cam, Ex Philadelphia Eagles star QB Donovan McNabb, was arrested after he hit a car stopped at a red light in Gilbert, Arizona. The officer conducting the traffic crash investigation observed McNabb acting oddly and smelled alcohol on his breath. After initiating a breath test on McNabb he was found to be twice the legal limit in the state of Arizona. McNabb also had a history of driving under the influence in the past. Mr. McNabb tried to say that he had a cold and that the cough drops in his mouth were the cause of his failed breath test, not the opened half empty bottle of tequila in his car!

Mr. McNabb was given 18 days in jail, 72 days of home detention, 30 days of community service and a fine. Finally! This sounds more like the punishment you or I would get on a second DUI. Hopefully there won’t be a 3rd DUI for Donovan. In the state of Florida, and many others, that could land the Ex Eagle a lengthy prison sentence.
