CBD

Hemp is a very useful plant that is only now starting to regain its proper place in our society. It is much different than marijuana in that hemp doesn’t get you high. In fact, to be classified as a hemp plant it must contain no more than .3%THC. THC is the molecule that is known to produce the intoxicating effect. However in a hemp plant, the most prevalent chemical compound is CBD.

CBD is one of many cannabinoids that is produced by the cannabis plant. Hemp can be comprised upwards of 10-20% of its total extracted weight being CBD. This isn’t the only thing extracted. The oil, which stripped from the plant, is composed of cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes.

This entourage of oil is known as ‘full-spectrum’ meaning that it contains all of the for mentioned compounds. You can take it a step further than this and remove the THC from this and it will be called ‘broad-spectrum’. There is also a form of CBD that is called ‘isolate’ which true to its name is solely CBD molecules. This isolate looks like a white powdery substance with a long shelf life while the other two are generally oily and have much shorter shelf-lives.

There are many cannabinoids and each is believed to have properties that aid certain conditions. Not only is the popularity of CBD growing, but of the hemp plant itself. For instance, hemp can be shredded down and made into a variety of products, including hempcrete. This plant is much more beneficial than harmful and I believe one day we will all use it in our everyday lives.

CDB oil has long been used to treat ailments and pain. What if it helped ease addictions symptoms and helped with cravings? A new study at Mt Sinai reveals that it does help addiction, but we in the industry have known this for years.
